
Kolkata Based Doctors Email Id hacked
A bariatric surgeon at a south Calcutta hospital realised recently that someone had hacked into his email ID and was using it to run a racket that duped people with false claims of personal loans. The doctor, B. Ramana, reacted on time and reported the crime to the police before his name could be implicated in it. The perpetrators are still at large. The city police said cases of email hacking are on the rise, with the hackers often using personal details of the victims as a shield against them. “Had the doctor not reported the matter, he could have unwittingly been involved in the racket. Email ID hacked, Rs 1.13 crore withdrawn from NRI's account
A Canada-based NRI has lost Rs 1.13 crore from his account with a bank in Manipal after hackers made their way into his email account and got the money transferred to two of their accounts overseas, according to a complaint lodged with the police. The fraud was committed after hackers made their way into the NRI's personal email ID and sent mails to the Manipal Branch of Syndicate Bank asking for transfer of the money from his Foreign Currency Non-Resident Account (FCNR), police said. As per the complaint, the amount in his account with the Manipal bank was found to have been transferred to two accounts in Dubai National Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.... Source

Tata Asset Management CEO’s email hacked, firm duped into wiring Rs 7 lakh
The cyber cell of Delhi Police says the email address of the CEO of Tata Asset Management has been hacked and the company made to pay around Rs 7 lakh. The company had initially filed a complaint with the Okhla police station, but the case was transferred to cyber cell after the firm alleged inaction by local police, sources said. Tata officials said the money was wired into an account with Bank of Baroda's Okhla branch from which Rs 5 lakh was withdrawn.... Source

Over 8,000 websites hacked in early 2016: Government said
As many as 8,056 incidents of website hacking were reported in the first three months of 2016, Parliament was informed today. In written reply to a Lok Sabha question, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the total number of “cyber security incidents including phishing, scanning, malicious code, website intrusion, denial of service etc” stood at 41,319, 44,679, 49,455 and 14,363, during the years 2013, 201, 2015 and 2016 (till March), respectively. Citing information reported to and tracked by Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the Minister further said these cyber security incidents included 28,481, 32,323, 27,205 and 8,056 website hacking incidents during 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 (till March)...... 130 Celebrities' Email Accounts Hacked; Hacker Stole Movie Scripts and Sex Tapes
A 23-year-old Bahamian man has been arrested and charged with hacking into the email accounts of 130 celebrities and stealing the unreleased movie and TV scripts, sex tapes, explicit images and even the upcoming album of a famous A-List Celebrity. The hacker named Alonzo Knowles contacted a famous radio host to sell the stolen scripts for the first six episodes of a hit television drama currently being filmed. Hackers deface CID website
HYDERABAD: Hackers cocked a snook at police fighting cyber crime by defacing the CID website, www.cidap.gov.in, in the wee hours of Tuesday. Incidentally, CID also has a cyber crime cell. The hackers left abusive messages on the site targeting their Indian counterparts — HMG and www.andhrahackers.com — and declared the hacking of the CID website as a response to hacking of Pakistan's Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority's (OGRA) website. Kolkata top cop's mail id hacked
After the website of the CID, cyber criminals have hacked the official e-mail id of Kolkata Police - cp@kolkatapolice.gov.in. Two mails were sent to an officer of Kolkata Police whose name was among the police commissioner's mailing list. Some unread messages were also found read. A complaint was lodged in the cyber crime cell of Kolkata Police. After initial probe, experts felt that since it is the official id of the commissioner, system administrators might have accessed it and someone might have clicked on a spam mail, thus making this illegal access possible..... More than 2,000 Indian websites hacked by Pakistani hackers
Pakistani hackers defaced more than 2,000 Indian websites on Republic Day in what is being termed as a “major cyber attack.” The website of model-turned-actress Poonam Pandey, which was also among the hacked sites displayed messages like “Pakistan Zindabad,” besides “your site security is compromised” and “Patch your site”. A group identifying itself as “Team Madleets” claimed responsibility for the hacking.
